    Goodman Elite Training is a world-class training facility and training partner to 65 Sports Teams (1500 Athletes) with multiple locations in Chicago, Illinois. We provide a structured evidence-based approach to training athletes of all levels: olympic, professional, collegiate, high school and youth. Our strong influence in the hockey industry stems from our owner, Paul Goodman, 3 x Stanley Cup Champion and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Chicago Blackhawks, currently in his 15th season in that role.  Paul was also named  Professional Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by the NSCA, (National Strength & Conditioning Association) in 2020.


    HERE’S WHAT WE OFFER:

    Exposure to Physiology Testing & Data Collection and Hands On Experience with our athletes and teams through Programming, Strength and Conditioning and Coaching. Along with offering training services we provide physiology testing to Chicago Blackhawks Training Camp, Chicago Blackhawks Development Camp and testing and data collection and analysis through our sports performance lab, plus free CEU-approved educational courses and clinics.
    The Goodman Elite Internship Program runs year round and interns may apply at any time.

    Our goal with each intern is to educate each individual on the ideologies and methodologies used within our facilities, gaining coaching and physiology knowledge with a wide variety of clientele and experiencing what is to be expected on a day-to-day basis as a strength and conditioning professional. This position requires the applicant to be available for morning, afternoon and evening hours for the duration of the internship. Often our internships have blossomed into future paid part time or full time positions.


    EXPECTATIONS:

    • Interns will participate in strength and conditioning sessions & facility activities, including:

    • Arriving 30 minutes early each day.

    • Logistically preparing for strength and conditioning sessions, assisting in setting up and breaking down the training session equipment.

    • Participating in team meetings, discussing and implementing new ideas for training and business.

    • Observing, assisting and leading training sessions for both youth and adult sessions with practical application.

    • Attending strength and conditioning related professional development.

    • Regularly clean and maintain the integrity of the facility and the quality of the equipment.

    • Assist in performing physiology testing on athletes and general populations, assessing all pillars of athletic performance.

    • Have a strong motivation to learn and possess an openness to constructive criticism while being taught the protocols of the facility.

    • Be energetic and have a positive attitude, especially when working with clientele.

    • Strong interpersonal skills and high quality customer service when interacting with clientele and staff.

    • Ability to direct and teach large groups of youth athletes with strong leadership skills and a positive influence.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


    SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION

    Internship Site will Provide:

    • A structured, safe work environment for the Internship.  

    • Access to the necessary personnel and available office space and supplies in order for each intern to perform his/her work.  

    • Sufficient orientation to these policies and procedures at the start of the internship, including the emergency and safety procedures of the Internship Site.

    • Supervision & feedback to interns throughout the Internship.  These supervisors will provide interns with informal and formal feedback regarding their job performance.

    • Interns will be expected to follow all of the applicable policies and procedures of the Internship Site.  

      Some of our partnerships include U8 through Pro Athletes representing organizations such as Blackhawks, White Sox, German Hockey Federation, Roosevelt D1 Hockey, Chicago Mission AAA, St. Ignatious High School Hockey, York High School Hockey, Chicago Cougars USPHL Juniors and many others.

    Paul Goodman, MS, CSCS*d

    Sports Science PhD Candidate with 3 Stanley Cup & 2 Rose Bowl Wins, Paul Goodman is in his 14th Season as Chicago Blackhawks Head Strength & Conditioning Coach. Considered one of the top evidence based performance and movement experts in the world, Goodman was the 2021/22 NSCA Pro Strength & Conditioning Coach of the year and currently serves as President of the Professional Hockey Strength and Conditioning Trainers and Coaches. He has worked with hundreds of pro athletes, Olympic athletes, and responsible for the development of hundreds of junior and youth athletes. Earning his Bachelor of Science at University of Wisconsin-Madison as a Football Strength & Conditioning Coach (winning Two Rose Bowl Championships) Paul went on to earn his first master’s degree at UW while Head S & C for multiple sports: Men’s & Women’s Hockey, Volleyball, Wrestling & Women’s Tennis.

    Dr. Ashley Johnson, MS, CSCS

    An NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach (CSCS), Ashley received her B.A. in Physical Education, Sport, and Fitness at Carthage College where she worked with Men and Women's Lacrosse, Men and Women's Basketball, Men's Volleyball, Women's Softball, and Women's Soccer. Ashley then furthered her education in sports and fitness by earning a Master's Degree in Human Performance and Nutrition Science from the University of Tampa. Coach Ashley has also received her Doctorate in Global Sport Leadership through East Tennessee State University.

    Connor Frey, MS, CSCS
    Connor was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio where he played AAA hockey (Defenseman) and lacrosse. During his hockey career, he played for Detroit Belle Tire and then moved on to the North American Hockey League playing for the Amarillo Bulls. During his time in the NAHL, he was selected to represent the South Division in the NAHL Prospects Showcase and won a National Championship. Post hockey career he attended the University of Toledo pursuing his Bachelor’s and then Master's Degree in exercise science. He has consistently worked with athletes of all ages and levels and pro to beginner.
